SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT

Substance abuse clients are screened based upon the age of the client, the severity and patterns use, drug of choice, current medical condition and any co-occurring psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Geoffrey Ludford LPC and Peggy Lidstrom LCSW are specialists in substance abuse. Current treatment options at Dominion Psychiatric Associates are the following:

ADOLESCENT TREATMENT: Teens who are exhibiting a pattern of using alcohol and drugs to deal with the stress of peer interactions, family dynamics, school performance, body imagine, and underlying psychiatric conditions such as depression. Teens are seen one on one and with their families and are given drug screens to monitor their progress.

LEVEL ONE (Early Intervention Group): These are adult individuals who have been arrested for the first time for either under age drinking, possession of a controlled substance, Driving under the Influence (DUI), or testing positive for an illicit drug. This group is designed to get the individual to thoroughly evaluate patterns of usage, recklessness, impulsivity and implications for continued use. Basic education is given about the biological, psychological and social aspects of substance abuse. This program meets once a week for ninety minutes per session for twelve weeks. Random drug testing is done at least twice during the twelve weeks. Approved by ASAP and Courts.

LEVEL TWO: This group is composed of adult clients who are referred by Chesapeake Bay Alcohol Safety Action Program and the Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake courts because of repeated arrests for DUI and or possession of controlled substances. They often exhibit co-occurring disorders such as ADHD and Bipolar Disorder. These co-occurring disorders make them prone to impulsivity and intemperance. They are well on their way to dependency if the disease is not treated. This group meets twice a week for ninety minutes per session.
